Union Soldiers Bowie - The bowie knife was in use on both sides of the war. This is one of the types of patterns being produced by cutlery companies of the era in the north. The knife is of a size that would be useful for camplife in the field and was justified as a good back-up weapon. The high carbon steel blade is well-tempered and is 1½ inch wide by 9 inches long. The guard and pommel are from solid brass and the grip is polished hardwood that narrows in the center for a very firm grip. The knife weighs 1 lb. 2 oz. Leather scabbard included.
