Spear and Halberd
A spear is one of the oldest weapons. It dates back to prehistoric time when a long stick was sharpened for hunting and military use. Soon sharpened stone and flint was attached to the shaft to enhance the lethality of the weapon.
Greeks and Romans soon replace the stone with metal tips and became masters of the pole arms in battle. The Romans developed the Pilium. This weapon had a slender metal shaft with a diamond shaped tip attached to the spear shaft. The Pilium was used like the traditional spear but once lodged in an opponents shield rendered the shield unusable.
Chinese Kwangs, Roman Pilium, Medieval Halberd and fantasy spears are made of wood and steel, for decoration, use and as stage props.
